Fashion + Gaming = StyledGamer

I haven't done a post about how to incorporate gaming, and nerdy things, into fashionable outfits. Since I am a fashion student and a lover of video games I thought that maybe I should take the time to write about it.... I don't know just a thought.

Anyways, so I always start an outfit with a shirt. I like my shirts to make a statement most of the time. So I generally will pick a batman shirt, or The Walking Dead, or Sons of Anarchy and go from there. No crew necks though; I don't like them, so if I do buy one I'll cut the neck out so it's an off - the - shoulder top instead.

Now, I would probably start with this batman, all over printed, tank top. (available at Hot Topic) and pair it with this white cardigan with a back skull detail (also available at Hot Topic).  Something simple to add, but also very effective.

Then, because it's still warm in Canada, I would top it all of this with a pair of high - waisted, distressed, acid wash shorts. Just to continue this rebellious look (found at amiclubwear.com).

Don't forget to add a few silver studded accessories. Maybe a pair of flats, Greek strappy sandals, or a pair of Dr. Martins to top off the look. That's the first outfit of maybe a few more. Ideas? Opinions? Maybe you'd do something differently? Let me know!

Raise the Black Flag

Recently, I have finally decided to purchase Assassin's Creed Black Flag. It took me a while to buy it because I wasn't impressed with Assassin's Creed 3; it took too long to get into the initial story line, and I was quite bored with it. Assassins Creed 3 ended up being a sleeper game when I was willing to put the time and effort into playing it. Which was really unfortunate because I was in love with Ubisoft's series.

However, I'm quite impressed with how they have created Black Flag. The graphics are unreal, reaction times are seamless, touchy enemies (much more fun and challenging) and a new witty character - Edward.

The story line, is where my heart really lies. It definitely reminds me of Assassin's Creed 2 when Ezio was first introduced as a stylish, flirty roguish character. Edward is very much like that; flirty, fun, and definitely attractive. I also like how he falls into the roll of Assassin from pirate, and his ability to change the tide of the conversation in his favor. I also definitely love how big the map is. It seems almost like the Skyrim map - endless. I do also enjoy the difference in location. It's a nice break from Europe and a reminder of what I wish Canada's weather would be like all year round.

The gameplay is like Revelations, a lot of free roam killing and assassinating. A lot of nice little side missions and contracts, on your own time missions and a lot of fun new ways to kill people. Plus the new added customization of your very own pirate ship! (I put a Mermaid on mine, just saying).

Definitely much happier with this game, and really excited for Assassins Creed Unity. Ubisoft has won my love back; that's for sure.

Lost and Found

So this past weekend, after looking through some old childhood boxes, I stumbled upon my old GameBoy! Not only did I find my old GameBoy but I also found a few childhood memory games to go with it including: Pokémon Red, Pokémon Yellow, Pokémon Blue & Donkey Kong.

Needless to say that the last few days I've been playing Pokémon Red and it's been so long that it feels like a completely new game. I'm loving it!

So this time I'm leaving it short and sweet because I really want to get back to it; I already have 5 badges and some pretty awesome Pokémon. My question for you guys is, when playing retro Pokémon, which one was always your first pick? Charmander? Squirtle? Bulbasaur? Pikachu?

Let me know!

Transformations Not Going So Well

So the new transformers movie is out with one of my favourite actors Mark Wahlberg. Unfortunately, I hate to say that I am more than extremely skeptical of this movie. I have not enjoyed any of the transformers movies; which is really upsetting because I use to LOVE transformers as a kid growing up!

However, with Michael Bay continuing to direct the transformers movies he has definitively ruined my love for transformers. Now I heard he has picked up TMNT .... I'm not seriously not happy. Just to sum up my displeasure, I have not liked any movie he has produced/directed....

So, for all those people who have probable already seen the movie... is it worth my time and money? Or am I going to be in the pit of despair because of how disappointing it will be? Maybe Michael Bay has finally pulled his socks up and decided to produce something decent... I don't know.... I might be in for a shock!

Opinions are needed!

Studying V.S. Star Wars KOTOR

So I'm supposed to be studying for this test I have in twenty minutes. Unfortuntely, every time I closed a page of notes to open the next one; I got overly distracted by the Star Wars icon on my desktop.... Damn you Star Wars for being so distracting!

So this is where you would ask me what I choose. Studying or Star Wars?

Well... Star Wars won the battle. I studied for an hour dealing with the constant distraction of the Star Wars icon. I kept trying to inform myself and the desktop icon that I really needed to study... Well desktop icon won and I started creating a new character on Star Wars The Old Republic.

I started my character as a female, rogue based, cybody and I was almost done.... when I realized class was in a few minutes.... So I started writing the blog to tell my viewers of the frustrations of being a gamer whilst trying to study....

Gaming was way too distracting some days; and tends to get the best of me when I should be attentive to my supposed future.... Gah!

Time to Perform an Eagle Dive!

I don't have much to say about life, love and the pursuit of happiness with the exception of this....
I have officially started a....

I'm afraid to say that the first video is really awkward... and the quality is crappy since I can only really tape myself off my iphone....

But it's time I put my honest opinions on a videos!

I'm really nervous about how this is going to go.... I don't know if it will actually go anywhere or that anybody will listen to me but that's OK! I'm doing this for myself as a kind of self expression.

If you do watch, please give me honest opinions. Don't be shy!

The Game of Life

The last couple days have been absolutely trying. I've had a lot going on in my life, and it has definitely kept me busy. However, I have noticed something about life that I can compare with video games - levelling up.

How? Well, the last couple of days I have learned a lot and have been able to put some of my past experiences to good use. Especially in the more difficult times.

When this idea finally dawned on me. I came to the conclusion that during the year I was gaining experience. Just like character classes in video games, I gain experience as the year progresses. When my birthday hits, I view it as a level up. On that day I could either learn a new skill, put points towards attributes with the experience from the year.... Or even both.

This view makes life a little easier because everything has a purpose. Each mistake teaches us something new, and maybe we don't use it right away; but we do eventually use it. It gives me hope that when I screw up it's not all for nothing. You agree?

Shall we call this the Game of Life? Literally

Yes, I Choose Gaming

It has come to my attention, as of late, that a lot of people do not see the perks in being a gamer. Many of these questions have been raised because of the start of both my blog and my twitter feed. So... let me answer this question for you with a few of my personal reasons.

1. Multi - tasking.
Not many people can carry on unrelated conversations whilst solving a puzzle, or beating a boss, at the same time. Gamers, with much practice, always get this skill hands down.

2. Lack of Movement
You know exactly where we will be at all times. If we aren't at the game console we are most like either a) working, b) at the bathroom, c) getting food, or d) venting about a part we are having difficulties with.

3. Nerd Factor
Gamers are cute; just saying.

4. Excitable
It's generally really easy to keep us happy. It normally comes down to food, video games, and alcohol.

5. Visual Memory
Only a true gamer can play a game once, know where everything it is, put it down for a month, pick it back up, and still know where everything is.

6. Outings
Since we tend not to go out very often, when we do it's a big deal; especially dating.

These are just a few. There are always more; just saying. I'm sure you'll be able to add a few of your own. If so, add them in the comments box below. Why do you Game? What's the best reason you can come up with?

An easier life? Maybe?

So, over the past few days, it has come to my attention that video game life is easy. How so you ask? Well... If you get injured, there is generally a health potion within close proximity to you. If you die? Well... Either a friend will have a life potion, or you just have to be patient and wait for the battle to end.

Now, my question is, wouldn't our life be easier if health/life potions existed? Sure, they might taste like Buckley's; but how awesome would they be? No broken bones for weeks on end, no coughing or stuffy noses for days on end, and definitely no waiting around hospitals for hours on end. It seems like a perfect solution to me... Just saying.

So, do you think they should exist on our world today? Or not? All opinions welcome.

My Childhood Seems to Have Returned

Now, all my gamer peers have OBVIOUSLY noticed that the E3 convention was on this week. A lot of new and FANTASTIC games are coming out this fall, all previewed at E3. However, Nintendo I believe was the most shocking of all!

Free roam Zelda?!

A new Smash Bros Brawl?!

Yoshi’s Wooly World?!

AND MORE?!

I do have to mention that I am more than excited about all of the above and more. I am so happy that they are stepping their game back up. I feel that I can relive my childhood since I grew up with both the Super Nintendo and Nintendo64. It’s like a blast from the past! What does everybody else think? What were you most impressed with from the E3?  (You didn’t have to go to get all the news, I didn’t but opinions about all are most welcome! Especially those who had the opportunity to go!)
